Yes, I am way behind, but just thought that I would post 2 pieces of artwork.

Kate colors several pictures everyday and doesn't want them to 'disappear.' She likes to use every color that she has in front of her.

Dawson drew this one at school, and I was very impressed. Dawson loves any type of birds, especially owls and penguins.

AUTUMN DAYS - DAWSON'S SCHOOL PROGRAM 2011

This was a cute, short program that the 2nd graders put on at Chubbuck Elementary.

Principal Watson gave a short welcome to the parents. Young, huh?

Then, they sang a bunch of songs. The first one was about apples. It was a really cute one. They named bunches of different apple names and then the chorus was something like "I like apples" (etc.) He didn't sing any of the verses. I leaned over to Brandon and said, if we ask him why he didn't that part, he'll tell us that he doesn't like apples, so why would he sing that. After the program, we asked him why he didn't sing part of the apple song, and he said, "Cause I don't like apples Mom!" It was hilarious.

OCTOBER HAPPENINGS 2011

Here are a few of the things we have been doing this October.

I accepted more responsibilities at my job and am looking forward to the challenges that will for sure come my way! I love working at a spa and love learning about new products and services that are on the market.

I was able to participate in What Today's Women Want in Idaho Falls for work. It was a lot of fun seeing all of the different displays and products that are being offered.

One of my favorite booths was Framed Legacy. They do their own artwork and also are able to blow up pictures, put them on a board and antique them. They are beautiful!!! You have to check out their website.

Kate had 8 cavities! Because we were losing our insurance, we were able to get in to the dentist in a timely fashion and get those taken care of. We are grateful for very caring dentist (Dr. Ross Hugues) who took care of Kate fantastically! Thank you!

Parent teacher conference

That happened for Dawson this month. His teacher asked what she could try to do for his moods. We really didn't have an answer for her, so that is hard ... and a little sad. What sets Dawson off one day, is not what can set him off the next. He is slowly coming around though, and we pray that he will learn to enjoy school.

Make a Difference Day for service club was so much fun! The club purchased hats, gloves, and scarves for foster children who might not have any of their own. I am continually grateful for a wonderful program that teaches my kids about how important service in the community is.

While looking for pictures, I came across another group that did Make a Difference Day and participated in "Warm Winter Project". So much fun!!!

Friday Night Frenzie was fun, but not very many people came. Here is the temple block that I made that night. I put it in Dawson's room, so that he has a picture of the temple!!!

Primary Programs have started and have been wonderful so far. I have attended 5 --- we have 3 to go! (Total of 11 for our stake.)

It's beautiful to hear the kids tell their testimonies. 3 parts that have stood out to me so far. In no particular order, here they are.

1) A boy had a part about prayer. The last part said, "Prayer can change the night to day." But he said it with a question mark and looked at the helper (who shook her head) to see if that was really true.

2) A boy talked about how he wanted to be obedient so that his parents didn't have to pray like Alma did, and he wouldn't have to see an angel. Quite humorous!

3) The sunbeams in another ward filled in this sentence. If I was on the earth with Jesus, I would have ____________. The girl said, "If I was on the earth with Jesus, I would have played doggies with him." So sweet and touching!

We gave the missionaries a memorable dinner. Dawson managed to fold himself up in a folding chair. Of course, he was his normal self, laughing and telling jokes. I am glad that no one choked on any food, so that, to me, spells success!

CORN MAZE

October 14th, Brandon and I went on a double date. We ate at one of the guy's favorite locations ---

After that, we headed to the corn maze near Shelley, ID.

I have to say that it was so much fun. We actually met the farmer that does the mazes. This is the only maze in the world that is half planted that way and half cut. He cuts 99 mazes a year (if I remember correctly). We made the mistake of asking him if he gets to take time off. NO, he does not!

This year, the maze looks like George Washington and says "To God and Country".

It was pretty incredible. We decided to do Farm Scene Investigation to find out how kidnapped Farmer Joe. Dusty was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! He knew exactly where we were and where we needed to go. It was CRAZY! We did find out who kidnapped Farmer Joe... but just in case you are going there, I won't give away the secret!

Expensive? Yes. Fun? Yes!

At the end of the Investigation, we made a potty stop. Ang, this picture is for you!

GRANDPARENTS NIGHT 2011

This year, Grandparents night was in October instead of January. This really threw me off; we already had Faith's friend birthday party planned when we found out about this special night.

Dawson always asks Grandma Kathy. Faith always asks Grandma Cindy (and Grandpa Kelly usually tags along.) But this year, Grandma Cindy felt like it was just too crazy for her to go with her leg. Faith was devastated, but finally was excited that she could take Grandma Kathy too.

Grandma Kathy said that she was not impressed with Faith's teacher at all. And that she thought that it was so sweet that Faith would want to spend her own money to help buy her siblings a book.

This is my favorite thing that I have done to make laundry easier. We purchased the wicker laundry baskets when we moved into this house.

But the sacks that are made to go in there are kind of a pain, if you ask me. So, I inside the basket, I put a pop open laundry basket.

I take out the full one,

put in an empty one,

and we are set.

This year, we decided to celebrate Faith's birthday by throwing her a SPARTY - code for Spa Party! We got this idea from Faith's friend Bekah who lives in Twin Falls.

We had such an awesome time. First the girls put on masks and then ate pizza.

Then we did Satin Hands. You forget how much fun it is to pamper yourself or others! And finally we painted nails. Everyone loved the crackle paint! For dessert, we had cake balls and strawberries & raspberries with dip. Just for the record, girls LOVE fruit! Maybe even more than chocolate! It was a pretty low key evening, ending in girls singing along to girly songs and watching me dance! Yes, I am that fun mom, even if I'm embarrassing sometimes Faith!

NEW ADVENTURE

Things in life rarely go as we plan. That much we know.

We all have a plan of when to get married, when to have children, how many to have, and a career path (or staying home with our kids.) Right?

What we don't know if when 'the plan' will change for us. Brandon's company sold part of their company to JAB Wireless/Digis. And with that sell, Brandon and one other employee moved over to that company.

Right now, we are very grateful that we have employment and that he is doing something that he loves. We are praying that eventually, we will be able to have benefits and a future there. Unless, of course, 'the plan' changes course again!

But, as long as we are on a new adventure, we will smile and say, "Come what may and love it!"

Our tour with Modern Woodmen of America Service Club took place at Swore Farms this year. All of the kids had a fantastic time. We were able to go through the maze, get a few fun pictures, and pick a pumpkin and raspberries. We are so grateful to have friends to do these wonderful activities with in the community!!!

All day, I reminded her how sick I was in labor with her and how I couldn't believe that she was 11. It was pretty fun!

We celebrated eleven by having just our dear family over, opening presents, and eating Angel Food cake! It was delicious!

TOP THREE - OCTOBER 2011

General Conference comes for the members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints just twice a year. It is a time that our family savors. We look forward to each session, listening closely for words of encouragement and inspiration. Each message touches us a different way.

This year, we were able to participate at home, doing our usual tent, holiday food, and conference wall. In April, we might try a few things different, but it really works out well. We also enjoyed having the Reno family over for breakfast (french toast) before the first session of conference. Then, we watched and listened.

The overall themes that I took away from this weekend was the scriptures and keeping ourselves clean and pure from the world. I found many of the topics hit home - for there are many around us struggling - trials and tribulations, repentance, and revelation. And finally, I have been reminded to call myself a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and not a Mormon.

I was excited to here of new temples being built around the world, especially one in South Africa (Will Bohney and Mrs. Page served missions in South Africa) and Star Valley, Wyoming.

So, after the many talks that were SO amazing, here are my top three.

President Dieter F. Utchdorf - Forget Me Not

He spoke at the General Relief Society Broadcast on Saturday, September 24th. His talk greatly touched my heart and soul. He talked about a little sweet flower, the forget-me-not. And then he corresponded each petal with something that we should not forget. Here is an excerpt from the end of his message:

My dear Relief Society sisters, you are closer to heaven than you suppose. You are destined for more than you can possibly imagine. Continue to increase in faith and personal righteousness. Accept the restored gospel of Jesus Christ as your way of life. Cherish the gift of activity in this great and true Church. Treasure the gift of service in the blessed organization of Relief Society. Continue to strengthen homes and families. Continue to seek out and help others who need your and the Lord’s help.

Sisters, there is something inspiring and sublime about the little forget-me-not flower. I hope it will be a symbol of the little things that make your lives joyful and sweet. Please never forget that you must be patient and compassionate with yourselves, that some sacrifices are better than others, that you need not wait for a golden ticket to be happy. Please never forget that the “why” of the gospel of Jesus Christ will inspire and uplift you. And never forget that your Heavenly Father knows, loves, and cherishes you.

This talk, A Time to Prepare, spoke volumes to me. He talked about the use of our time. Some of the things that I noted in his talk ... The poor use of time is a close cousin to idleness; We should devote our time to the things that matter most; We misuse our time by disguised distractions, which we need to identify; We should review what we are doing to meet God. AND, we should be as quick to kneel as we are to text. One of my favorite quotes from The Walk is, "Procrastination is the thief of dreams." I hope I can remember to dedicate my time to what matters most.

Carl B. Cook, Quorum of the Seventy

It Is Better To Look Up, focused on believing that God can help us with anything that we face in this lifetime. He began by telling a story of his first week as a General Authority. He was overwhelmed and carried a very heavy briefcase. While in the elevator, he thought about how he could do everything he was asked. And then, President Monson got in the elevator and said, "It's better to look up!" Here is an excerpt:

Experience has taught me that if we, like President Monson, exercise our faith and look to God for help, we will not be overwhelmed with the burdens of life. We will not feel incapable of doing what we are called to do or need to do. We will be strengthened, and our lives will be filled with peace and joy.³ We will come to realize that most of what we worry about is not of eternal significance—and if it is, the Lord will help us. But we must have the faith to look up and the courage to follow His direction.

We are now one of 'those' families. Every month, we will go to pack meeting to celebrate the accomplishments of the boys who earn awards. I am actually excited for Dawson. He truly loves being a scout and hanging out with the boys.

Many of our friends and family are interested in our progress to complete our chicken coop. Well, the chickens are still growing and the coop (other than a door and the rest of the chicken wire) is up and working very nicely. The kids are still interested in the chickens and also are okay with eating them... So I think that we are still in business.

Since I always tell this story, I guess that I should write it down for future generations. Melissa, Amber, Karolina, and me all carpooled the kids together. There was a month or so that they were having a debate about who Faith was going to marry, Ethan or Zach. Everyday, it would go like this, "Faith, who are you going to marry, me or Zach?" (Ethan would say.) And everyday, she would say she didn't know. Finally, one time Ethan and Faith were having a play date and he asked her the infamous question. She turned to him and said, "My dad says I don't have to choose because I'm SO hot!" And she flipped her hair and turned around.

Those were the days!!! How I miss them!

TOO FAST

Do you ever worry that life is going too fast? That if you blink, somehow you will miss it?

That is how I have been feeling lately. This year will be the last year that Faith will participate in the primary program. Am I old enough to have an 11 year old? It will be the first time for Kate in the primary program. Where did the time go? Dawson was baptized and is already a cub scout. He makes macaroni and cheese by himself. When did they get so self-sufficient?

I remember eagerly waiting for Faith to arrive ... to hold this precious baby.

Then, Dawson came along to add to the fun and fairytale we call life. He was so opposite, but so much fun. I remember being able to stay home with him. No particular moments, except that I was there.

And, after much anticipation, we added Kate to our family. She was such a mommy's girl. She loved being held and being the 'baby'. The kids liked it too. I remember wondering who she was going to look like and what type of personality she would have.

I saw this in Kate's backpack from preschool 2 days ago. I am feeling like I need to slow down time. Yet, there are times when life gets so hard that I really want the day to end. I ask myself ... Why am I so emotional about something that is perfectly normal?

But they are just growing so fast.

SNEAKY LOVE

So I am being pretty sneaky by posting this. You have to promise if you read this post that you don't know anything about this. Seriously!!!

Here are the quilt tops that I put together (with the help of my wonderful, gorgeous, and talented friend Jenny) for each child's gift of love for Christmas. I am putting minkies on the back and then having them machine quilted. Yes, this is going to cost me and arm and a leg, but it's something that I have really wanted to do for my kids! They are all twin sized so they will still be able to cuddle with them when they are bigger too!!!

GIRLFRIENDS ARE THE BEST!

This weekend, I was able to visit with 2 of the best of best girlfriends. I sure have missed these girlfriends in my life! We took pictures of the girls and then took pictures of us!

Kristy - I met Kristy in High School. We must have had a class together and then she convinced me to do Jr. Miss with her. I relented and ended up spending the rest of High School hanging out with her! College was no different ... I slept over at her house more than I slept at my house. We took so many classes together. I'll never forget "Mr. Graph Lover" and the bags of junk food to try and stay awake. Kodak, Kristy's van, was one of a kind. She'll remember vividly that you never give Zoey 1 towel when she showers, because the hair will be put in higher priority!

Jenny - I had to ask her this weekend how we met. You know when you've known each other so long that you can't quite remember. Jenny's husband worked at Burger King with me. We figured out the Jenny had a class with me (Music), but it was a big class. So one day, Troy walked Jenny to class so that we could meet. Kristy, too, was in that class, and we instantly hit it off. Jenny probably doesn't have as many 'exciting' stories about me as Kristy does, but she was the one to get us into scrapbooking, stamping, among the other things.

SIMPLOT RUN

I believe it was in April when Anya, Sara, and I decided that we would run the Simplot Run together. Sara and I volunteered at the Joint Jaunt at a watering station, so that we would be able to get a free run for Simplot.

In July, we found out that Sara and her family were moving, so we would not be able to make this run together. But we still wanted to do it.

Then came August and the beginning of September. Motivation to train was low, and I neglected it. So, with 1 practice run on Tuesday, I went to do this one . . .

Grace slept through it all!

Bryleigh did amazing and Anya kicked my butt (no surprises there!)

The only thing that was missing was Sara

On a brief highlight, for a small moment I came in 3rd in the 10K run and Anya came in 1st in the 5K walk. I finished in 29th place out of 49 in my age group - at a time of 37:38 ... breaking it down to 12:06 minute miles. Add in a few hilly parts and the fact that I was not training, I feel like I did pretty good ...

But I stilled missed Sara!

SPRING SOCCER

We finally received Dawson's pictures from spring soccer. This is our luck, so I'm getting used to it quite a bit. The kids were nice, the coach was very encouraging, and I think that he completely enjoyed himself.

On a little side note, this was taken on May 14th. Brandon and I were in Boise for Wicked with Brady and Sondra. Dawson scored his first and only goal that day. Aunt Tracy took him, since she is a sports mom, and cheered for us!!! It was also the day that Grandma Cindy had her bike accident.

Kate has been wondering why the other kids get to go to school and she has to stay home. She has cried and cried and cried.

Finally, Kate's school started today and she was SO excited to go and see her old friends from last year. She is so independent and really hates when we have to be home too long (just like her mom.) We are so excited for Kate to go back to school and hopes she has an excellent year!

STEP FORWARD - 4 MONTH UPDATE

September 14th marked the 4th month of recovery for Cindy. We recently received Dawson's soccer pictures - I knew they were taken on May 14th and that he scored his first goal that day. I think I might remember that date for a long time.

Here this month's update of information.

August 25th, Kelly and Cindy headed up to Burley to visit with Dr. Crane. He was very pleased with her progress, which at this date was a 110 degree bend on her own, 118 degrees with assistance. Her next doctor's appointment is October 6th.

August 26th she began weight bearing at physical therapy and around the house. She started with 20 lbs., which is just a touch down with her left foot.

Labor Day weekend, she was able to attend all 3 hours of church for the first time since before the accident. This is a huge step forward for her.

At the 4 month recovery mark, she was able to bend 115 degrees on her own, 120 degrees with help. Her physical therapist are confident that she can bend more. They are continuing to work breaking up the adhesions on her knee cap (scar tissue). Her weight is now at 80 lbs, which allows her to stand on each foot equally. Cindy uses crutches in public, but continues to use the walker at home. Very soon, she will begin to use a cane to get around. Physical therapy continues to be hard... it will never be easy. Once she is able to do a certain exercise well, they switch up what they are doing with her to make it more challenging.

I am constantly amazed at the progress that she is making and the fact that she pushes for more everyday. There are so many times that I imagine what I would do in her shoes. I want to say that I would push on, believing that I could do anything. But, I'm not so sure.

I know that she is looking forward to being able to walk without assistance. I hope that I can capture one of these special moments on video.

10 years ago.

We remember. Events that others remember. The attack on Pearl Harbor. Assassination of John F. Kennedy. Fall of the Berlin Wall. Events that changed history.

In 2001, we were happily married and living with Brandon's parents. Faith was almost 1 year. I was working at ISU Library part time, and Brandon was going to school full time.

The morning for me started off very routinely. Getting dressed and ready for work, I was watching A Baby Story on the TV. And then I got a call from a dear friend, Kristy, asking if I was watching the TV ... the news ... the horror unfolding. I really didn't know what she was talking about.

Brandon was at the ISU library waiting to get in the building to study for the day. He hears other students talking about a plane crashing into a tower. He didn't realize the impact that this would have. Class schedule that day included history. His teacher said that this was history in the making and sent the class home to watch the news.

We watched the news for days on end, soaking in the new information and really praying. It was all so hard to wrap your head around this tragic event. It truly affected everyone's life.

DAWSON'S BAPTISM

When I first asked Dawson about being baptized, he answered a very honest, "I don't know if I'm ready for that." I knew that this was not something that I could push him to do, rather just encourage him. So, about a month before the baptism, I suggested that he invite the Beauchat's to the baptism. He said, "Oh yeah!" and then invited them. I told him that he needed to let them know when it was. And he said, "It's September 10th." YES!!!

Dawson was a little nervous about being baptized. On Monday night for family home evening, we had a great discussion about the importance of being baptized, answered many of his questions, and practiced how he would plug his nose, etc. It went great and I think that he felt much better about everything after the night was over.

Dawson Michael Jolley was born September 7^th, 2003 to Brandon and Zoey. His early arrival surprised his parents and delighted Grandpa Jerry on his birthday. He is very protective of his two sisters, Faith and Kate. Dawson is charming, witty, and unique. The things he says often become “Dawsonisms” at our house. One example is, “When I am parent sized …” Dawson loves to watch Pokemon shows, play games on dad’s phone, feed the chickens, and play with friends. At Chubbuck Elementary, he enjoys lunch and recess. Dawson’s favorite primary song is “Nephi’s Courage.” He likes to come to church to read scriptures and take a nap. Dawson would like to be a master of Spinjitzu when he grows up. We are very proud of him for making the choice to be baptized!

Dawson and Brandon both did great! Grandpa Kelly and Brother Bobby Garvin (from our Bishopric) were the 2 witnesses and also the ones to help give Dawson the Holy Ghost. Dawson gasped when he came up from the water. Later, we learned that he kept his eyes open to see what it was like in the font water. Silly boy! At the beginning of the confirmation, Brandon could not remember the words ... just the words of other blessings. But everything went wonderful.

After the baptism, our family and friends gathered at my parent's house (it has the most room) for a quick luncheon. We had sandwiches, jello salad, green salad, chips, and cinnamon rolls. (Thank you Wal-Mart for the sandwiches and Amy & Brenna Johnson for the amazing dessert!!!)

It was a bitter sweet day that we will always remember. Wonderful and very sweet for the covenant that Dawson made with his Heavenly Father. And a bit sad because we were missing so many of our family and friends that we love so much.

Congratulations Dawson! Always remember who you are!

NINJAGO BIRTHDAY PARTY

More than anything, Dawson wanted a Ninjago birthday party. 3 children on our street all have the same birthday; so for that reason, we often combine birthday parties so that the kids in our neighborhood don't have to 'choose.' This year, we were with Bryleigh. Don't worry, she loves ninjas too!

Today is the first day of school for 2011!!!

My sister's Robyn's kids started last week and she told me about a fun breakfast that they have for kindergarteners and their parents. It is called 'The Yahoo Boo-hoo Breakfast.' I was a bit confused for a moment ... she explained that some parents were saying "Yahoo!" and other parents were crying "Boo-hoo"! I thought that this was SO much fun!

This year, Dawson was easy to get up and moving, while Faith took more prodding. We made blue pancakes in the letter C for Chubbuck Elementary. Next year will be more complicated since Faith will start middle school - ugh!

It shouldn't be hard to say goodbye. At least in theory.

But I miss Ang. I miss Robyn. And, I miss Sara.

It has been hard to process losing so many loved ones this summer. They aren't dead; they are just many miles away. A few days ago, I came to the realization that it is naive to think that everyone you love will live close to you forever. It's true that people move all the time. And they survive ... I'm sure their friends do as well.

Each day this summer, I've focused on little moments. One day at a time. My heart aches ... some days worse than others. I wonder when I feel so bad, what do they feel like? Do they miss Pocatello and Chubbuck? Do they miss surprise dropbys to say hello? Do they miss family?

In the process of saying goodbye and having a few real good cries, I know that I've made other friends feel bad ... It is not intentional and I love you just as much. Truth be told, I am close to family and friends (shocker, I know). Those who I call my friends, I call family. I would do anything for any of you!

And so, as summer comes to a close, I look forward to wonderful times with all of you. I can't wait to try out Skype and come for visits. I can't wait to get to know all of my Pocatello friends a bit better.

But just a warning. If you decide to move away, it might just be hard for me to say goodbye!

I have a feeling that the Bohneys life in Texas will be exciting. In that same token, I can't help but know that life for them will be "Before Texas" or "In Texas." Maybe ... eventually ... it will even be "After Texas." It is heartbreaking to know that I will be in the "Before Texas" category.

S-T-R-E-T-C-H-Y SPEECH

It started learning that she was going to have a boy teacher. There was nothing worse than a boy teacher!

And then she met Wade. He was very sweet and of course, Kate is a charmer. So they hit it off great. Twice a week, we drove to the campus of ISU to take speech therapy from Wade.

Kate learned about S-T-R-E-T-C-H-Y speech this summer. Slowing down speech is one of the best ways to deal with stuttering. The did this all kinds of ways, but one of the funnest was saying words while stretching silly putty while saying words like "Hippopotamus" and "Elephant."

She also learned about taking good breaths and filling up her lungs with air! They pretended to blow out candles on a birthday cake. That was fun!

She continues to be such a bright, shining star. One session, she took a baby doll around to take to other adults in the building. She named this baby 'Sparkle.' Only one of my kids could be creative enough to name a baby 'Sparkle."

And I took pictures on 2 different occasions. Do you think I can find the pictures? Negative!!!

ROCK CLIMBING

The other day we thought that we would pop over to the Brooklyn's Playground Carnival to check it out. Overall, it was going to be an expensive adventure, so we didn't stay, but here are a few fun pictures that we took.

Faith was next. She got almost to the top and wanted to stop. We helped her to finish and she really enjoyed herself!

And then, on a whim, I asked if I could do it. They said yes, so I did it!

THE JOLLEY JOURNALS - CHOICES

This is Me Challenge #2

What are some choices in your life that affected where you are now?

When I think back on choices that I've made that have changed my life, I think that there are a few. Here are my top five ...

Choice #1 - Deciding to stay in Pocatello and attend ISU. It is there that I re-met Brandon at an Institute ward!

Choice #2 - Deciding not to marry Daniel (engagement #1). Years later, I am still friends with his cousin. She informed me that he is now an atheist.

Choice #3 - Not marrying Greg (engagement #2). That was a hard decision. Sometimes that hardest decision are not the easiest decisions.

Choice #4 - Giving Brandon a chance (engagement #3). He was divorced, and that was something that I never wanted. But, when things are right, things are right. I'm glad that I opened my heart to that possibility. We sure have a great time together!

Choice #5 - Switching jobs with Megan. Megan is a dear friend. I applied for a job when she worked at Gold's Gym. There wasn't an opening, but I prayed for it and it happened just a few days later. When she moved over to Sunsations, I applied for a job there and worked with her again. She moved next to Aethetics by Physicians Med Spa, and yes, I followed her over there. If I had not have followed her over there, I would probably not be as interested as I am now in completing schooling in esthetics. It is something that gets me very excited.

I BOUGHT WATERPROOF

Today is the day that the Royce family leaves to return to the Boise area. They have had an exciting time moving, complete with Texas, Louisiana, Florida, and Montana. They have moved a few times in Nampa. This last move was back to Chubbuck. It was nice to be able to have them so close, even if it was temporary.

Although they have moved a bunch of times, this time really feels different. For everyone.

This time we know it is permanent. They love the area, the shopping, having Jason's large family so close, and still living within driving distance to see our family. Somehow, knowing that they won't be moving back (even though they are close) makes it feel so final. And sad.

Yesterday, I spent time with Robyn cleaning out her rental. I'm sure it was hard for her to pack everything up, yet again, and clean out a place that isn't even theirs. But, we did it.

And then I took my kids to Grandma Cindy's to say goodbye to their cousins.

They enjoyed a little bit of playing dress up.

And then gave BIG hugs to say goodbye. Grandma Zoey was there saying goodbye too. As we were leaving, Robyn said that it was good --- no tears. I said, "Yet." And then she said, "I bought waterproof." We chuckled.

Yes, tears will flow. And we will cry. And we will miss them.

And we can't wait to see them again ... soon!

DYI - HOME IMPROVEMENT

Have you ever wondered why the TV show Home Improvement was so popular? Of course, we loved the 'cute' boys and the neighbor Wilson. It even had a show within a show "Tool Time", starring Tim, the Tool man Taylor, and his trusty side kick flannel wearing Al!!!

We like to laugh at fix it yourself type of projects. It's all funny until we are actually experiencing it and coming up with crazy fixes that work for us.

In fact, it is probably unusual if you don't have 'interesting' home repairs.

The first one that we experienced was moving in. We tried to move a couch in the basement living room. The entryway was right off the stairs with an opening about the size of a normal doorway. We had to tear it out for about double the size.

The next major one was the bathroom repair. There were a lot of problems, but the ones that top my list are the flood in my craft room and the fire while trying to weld a pipe together. Yep, those were good times.

The dishwasher has never been what I would call 'great.' But it worked and I tried not to complain. But in the last week or so, over 90% of the dishes were still dirty. It just didn't matter what setting or detergent. At my breaking point, I told Brandon my 'need.' Perhaps he was a little surprised at my forthright request.

We talked to the guy at Lowe's who was really helpful and gave us great tips and pointers on deciding which dishwasher was right for our needs. We decided on a Kitchenaid. Brandon, like any other guy, was excited about the extra power jets!

That was the fun part. But we all know that installation is not supposed to be 'fun.' We just hope it goes quickly and smoothly. The pipes were NOT 'standard.' After learning that, Brandon and I decided to fix it in the morning. We went to push the dishwasher under the counter top. I'll let you connect the dots ...

Yes, our countertops are NOT 'standard!' And, behind the counter top was a 1 by 2. Brandon really did and also does his best.

Do you know how frustrating it is? Oh, yes, I forgot ... most of you are home owners, so I am preaching to the choir.

One day, this might get fixed.

I am trying not to let the little things bother me and appreciating that the dishwasher actually cleans the dishes and my kids actually like to load and unload the dishes right now. Everything has a silver lining!

A FRIEND-OVER BBQ

On Sunday, we had a friend-over BBQ. We invited the Beauchats, the Coopers (whom we have mentioned having a BBQ with for a few years now), and the Bohneys (who are soon leaving to Texas.) After planning thisBBQ at our house, we found out that my family was having a BBQ for Tracy and Connor's birthday and for the Royce's (Robyn) who are moving to Nampa. I took the kids up to Grandma Zoey's for a few minutes before our BBQ started.

We enjoyed a simple BBQ, but more importantly, a night of visiting, complete with stories, laughing, and kids needing attention.

I really wanted to take plenty of pictures, but most people did not want pictures taken. Next time, it will probably have to be a requirement!!!

GIVE IT ALL YOU'VE GOT - 3 MONTH UPDATE

Today is the 3 month mark for my mom's recovery. It's interesting to see how fast and slow the time has gone.

As I asked Cindy about the approaching 3 month mark, she said that she was going forward. Progress is not measured inch by inch, but by the smallest, tiniest bits. She looks at where she's come from and what she has accomplished.

When she started therapy, she was able to bend her leg 80 degrees. On Monday the 8th, she bent her leg at 115 degrees. Cindy consistently bends at 110 degrees. A normal bend is 140-145 degrees. If she can get a bend of 120 degrees, she will be able to do stairs normally and no one will ever have to know what happened. Her therapists are amazed and very happy with her progress. The next benchmark will come when she can put weight on her leg. They are hoping that August 25th will be the day that Dr. Crane gives the 'ok'.

Since therapy is so much of her life right now, I thought that it would be great to document a typically therapy day for everyone to see.

Her therapy begins with an ultrasound massage.

Electrodes next. All of these next exercises are timed on a timer for 5 minutes.

From what I could tell, this part looked the most painful to me. It is called scraping.

Here is some information that I found on scraping. The theory behind scraping is to scrape the muscle or tendon so hard that it turns bright red --- actually re-injuring your injury. Scraping has been used in Chinese medicine for thousands of years and was called Gua Sha. In layman's terms, the blood's congested, so you want to move the congested blood out and bring fresh blood in. This also breaks up scar tissue that is trying to build up. Localized and controlled injury can actually bring more healing to the sight.

These are the tools that they use to do the scraping.

Shea butter is apply and the bigger tool is used first.

By the end of this, my dad and I were both wondering what it feels like and how it would feel on our legs and such.

Too easy this time, so let's make it more challenging.

Next, it is on to Gold's Gym where Superior Therapy takes all of their clients to use these wonderful machines.

First up here is the bike. Interestingly, the rotation of the biking movement is one of the most critical and is used a lot in leg injuries. At this point, things were not going as well as it had the previous week. 10 minutes here.

10 minutes on the rowing machine, though we stayed longer.

Next to the Max Vibe machine that vibrates back and forth. This is her heaven. She kneels and then tries to sit on the bench behind her.

Then Rego, a tech, helps to bring her leg straight while vibrating.

Next, it's back downstairs to do 2 different hip abductor machines.

With weight on this machine, it is wrapped around her leg. She brings it forward, and then back to standing position.

Using this machine to lock back into place. Very painful.

From Cindy's view point. This is a super-duper ice wrap on her leg to help with swelling.

She says that you can never do enough ... but it's all she can do! I say, "Give it all you've got!" Then you can have no regrets in the future. Cindy is incredibly strong and one of the bravest woman that I've known. I am proud to call her mom!

RIDING THE WAVES OF SERVICE

Each year, our little city does "Chubbuck Days". There is a fun little parade and then festival at Cotant Park right in our own neighborhood park.

We are lucky enough to be in the parade with Modern Woodmen service club! This year our theme was "Riding the Waves of Service". We played songs like Wipeout and Beach Boys Surfing USA.

CHICKEN LITTLE, CHICKEN BIG

If you've noticed that posts have been fewer and farther between, you probably have a few guesses as to why. One is that I have been working extra to cover on vacations and such. And the second, yes, CHICKENS!!! They are getting so big.

The kids play 90% of the time outside, taking care of the chickens. I am afraid that they are going to be really attached!

The other day, we even lost a chicken under the fence. No worries, we got 'Marshmallow' back.

Zebra has a broken talon (aka toe). Faith and her friend Kristin carry her around in a red jacket everyday.

We are working hard to build the coop before fall hits and the chickens start their egg laying. After searching for the best chicken coops, we picked one that we liked, but we didn't have a pattern. They did however, have plenty of pictures. And so we set out, full throttle to build and paint this fabulous chicken coop.

We have now discovered a flaw, which is leading to a hiccup in the building process. The flooring should have had notches cut out where the 2x4s were, so we are 2 inches short ...

We are working on improvisations at this point. Here is one option that we are currently looking into.

For Mother's Day, Dawson's teacher was so sweet to get the kids to tell her their favorite recipe for Mother's Day. Here is Dawson's recipe. (Yes, I am just now getting around to posting this!!!)

PUMPKIN ROLL

3 cups of sugar
some bread
some cream

Mix it together. Put the sugar on top of the bread. Put the cream on top of the sugar. Roll it. Cook for 30 min. 1 sec.

WAY BACK WEDNESDAY - DAWSON HAS PERSONALITY

We knew from the very beginning that Dawson had personality. We love everything about him. These pictures were sometime after Christmas of 2005 or 2006. We received "Bull's Eye" from Grandma and Grandpa Kelly as a Christmas gift. They made him for our kids to enjoy!

In an effort to conclude summer with less tears and more time together, we got together Monday as an extended family to visit and have dessert. S'MORE time with family, right?

A LITTLE PIECE OF KANSAS

Right out of the gate, I should tell you that Ang is a very creative person. And she loves, loves, loves surprises!

So it shouldn't surprise me that she would get her sister April to do a surprise for me. AND, that she would get me to do a surprise for her right back!

April put together this 'don't forget' fingers for me. So much fun because they were a bunch of random sayings that friends just know. They each start with 'remember'. It was very sweet.

Then I went hunting for wild sunflowers (finally found up trail creek) - they are her sister's favorites.

Here is the text that Ang sent me ... I put it together neatly for April!

Well, the next week, I received a small package. The card just made me smile:

And, she remembered to send me a booger (inside joke!)

Then, I start to see what else she sent me. In baggie #1 we had:
Bug spray ... nice Ang!

And in baggie #2, there were:
Cicada Shells!

Talk about being mortified! So, I immediately text her and ask: "What in the world did u send me?!?!"

I KNOW at this point she was laughing SO hard because she texted her reply, "A little piece of Kansas! LOL!"

I have a lot of fun when I go to move pictures from my camera to the computer. It is quite an adventure in and of itself. There is always something that gives me a smile! When I'm at work, Faith enjoys taking pictures of everything. It has become quite a hobby for her.

THE JOLLEY JOURNALS - MODERN CONVENIENCES

I found a new website called "This is Me Challenge." The challenges are geared toward family history. So, I have decided to take the challenge and begin. (I am starting at 1 and working my way up! Hope you enjoy!)

Challenge #1 If you were forced to go back in time to the olden days, but were allowed to take 10 modern conveniences with you, what would you take?

1) Washing machine
Pre treating, spot treating, washing, rinsing, wringing. Yeah, without a washing machine, this is not for me!

2) Flushing toilets
I love having flushing toilets. I think that this would be hard to give us.

3) Electric heat
I'm sure that I would learn how to be a better fire builder, but I think I'd rather settle for heat that I can flip on with a switch.

4) Oven
I have had to go without one for a week, and it was the pits. Not having a microwave would be hard too, but doable.

5) Libraries
Have I mentioned that I LOVE books? No really, I would die if I couldn't get my hands on different printed books.

6) Click pens and pencils
In order to forgo the phone and still stay in touch with everyone, I would love to have a pen and pencil.

7) Medicine
I don't know about you, but I really like being able to take something for a headache.

8) Hot water
After doing what the pioneers did, wouldn't you just love to have a hot shower or bath? I know that I would have really missed that!

9) Camera
I really do love my camera. But more than that, being able to document for my grandkids and their grandchildren is very special.

10) Vehicles
Purely for selfish reasons, I would love to be able to have a vehicle for 'long' trips!

THE JOLLEY JOURNALS - PRAYER

Posts have been sparse this week, due to the fact that I only had 4 days to prepare a talk for sacrament meeting. My topic was the power of prayer. I thought that I would share a few excerpts with you:

I asked several friends, "What is prayer?" Here are two of my favorite answers.

“Prayer is a daily PPI. It is an opportunity to talk with God and reflect on what I can do better tomorrow.”

“Prayer is a way to open your heart to God, let him in your life in an intimate way, and tell him all your fears and worries, gratitude and thankfulness. Prayer is one of those things that is experienced differently by everyone but is a universal way of talking to the one who created each of us!”

President Kimball taught: “No mother would carelessly send her little children forth to school on a wintry morning without warm clothes to protect against the snow and rain and cold. But there are numerous fathers and mothers who send their children to school without the protective covering available to them through prayer—a protection against exposure to unknown hazards, evil people, and base temptations.”

We are taught to “pray always to the Father in my name.”

Once a Primary teacher asked a little boy if he said his prayers every night.

“Yes,” he replied.

“And do you always say them in the morning, too?” the Primary teacher asked.

“No,” the boy replied. “I ain’t scared in the daytime.”

Fear of the dark should not be our only motivation to pray.

We sometimes forget that prayer should not be our last resort, but our first priority.

President Hinckley said, “Believe in prayer and the power of prayer. Pray to the Lord with the expectation of answers. I suppose there is not a man or a woman in this entire congregation today who doesn’t pray. I hope that is so. The trouble with most of our prayers is that we give them as if we were picking up the telephone and ordering groceries- we place our order and hang up. We need to meditate, contemplate, think of what we are praying about and for and then speak to the Lord as one man speaketh to another. “Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord” (Isa. 1:18). That is the invitation. Believe in the power of prayer- it is real, it is wonderful, it is tremendous.”

My testimony of prayer is that it is real and that God hears and answers our prayers. Prayer changes who we are and what we will become. "Prayer changes things."

Have I mentioned that I work with incredible women? After work, we were able to all meet up at Texas Roadhouse to celebrate! That's right ... Kelley is engaged and going to be married August 26th to Austin Budge. What a fun last name!!!

On Sunday, Faith was asking me about my favorite scripture and why it was my favorite. Then she proceeded to ask my why I don't blog about that too.

Hence, the Jolley Journals will come every Sunday! It may be me, or it could be Brandon or one of the kids ...

My favorite scripture is found in the Doctrine and Covenants 84:88.
88 And whoso receiveth you, there I will be also, for I will go before your face. I will be on your right hand and on your left, and my Spirit shall be in your hearts, and mine angels round about you, to bear you up.

That's my favorite because it has always meant to me that at my hardest moment, there will be angels to help me push through my trials, just like the angels that helped push the handcarts.
